Delucchi Plus Gives Back: A Day at the Capital Area Food Bank

Delucchi-Company-Culture

One of our main company values here at Delucchi Plus is to give back to the community in various ways. This week we took a trip to the Capital Area Food Bank in Northeast D.C., to participate in a food-sorting project for seniors in Montgomery County. Our day began with an insightful presentation on what defines hunger and the various ways it appears in the country. An immersive “Face Hunger” simulation challenged us to take on a new identity to experience the difficulties many people in this country face when trying to feed themselves and their family. We ended the day by packing 602 bags of food for seniors in Montgomery County.

Capital Area Food Bank is an organization that is currently working to solve hunger by delivering food to areas that have less access to fresh food, and by teaching communities about wellness. The tour through their urban garden showed us how easy it is to harvest your own crops and how they use their garden to give fresh, healthy foods to their food assistance partners. We were glad to spend our Give Back Day at Capital Area Food Bank learning about hunger in our community and to taking steps in solving hunger, together.
