Delucchi University: How to Become an SEO Ninja Turtle

screen-shot-2016-10-28-at-10-08-31-am

What does a beloved squad of superhero turtles have to do with SEO? Plenty, as we learned this week from our Director of Digital Strategy, Jonathan. To the newer members of Delucchi Nation, SEO (Search Engine Optimization) can be some complex subject matter to boil down, but Jonathan gave a great overview of the concept’s four key aspects. And thanks to the Ninja Turtles, he was able to do it in easy-to-understand layman’s terms. Here’s what Jonathan covered, and how he linked each facet back to our favorite pizza-craving reptiles.

SEO: The Definition

Search Engine Optimization is a marketing discipline, the whole point of which is to convince search engines that your content is the best for what a search user wants. This helps grow visibility in unpaid, or organic, results. There are four aspects to SEO:

  1. Technical SEO

Much like Donatello, the most tech-savvy of the Ninja Turtles, technical SEO revolves around the technical elements of your website and its content. This can involve meta data, meta tags, keyword research and more.

  1. Local SEO

Depicted as Raphael (the turtle who wants to be in charge), local SEO is often used because of its easy establishment within a community. It functions through directory listings, geographic information and personal information like name, address and phone number.

  1. Content Distribution

Content distribution involves creating and sharing content such as social messaging, blogs and influencer outreach. It lets Google reward sites for having the right people using their content, much like Michelangelo, the socialite and most creative Ninja Turtle.

  1. Ongoing Content Strategy

Being one of the most important aspects of SEO, ongoing content strategy is how someone grows more organic search traffic. Similar to the Ninja Turtles’ disciplined leader, Leonardo, ongoing content strategy touches on how someone can make the most useful content for users. This includes the creation of blog posts and content media to connect users to your site.

Jonathan’s SEO breakdown gave us a glimpse of his daily work, and a broader sense of what each of us at Delucchi Nation can do to help grow our clients’ online visibility. Leonardo and the gang truly saved the day again.
