PR Gets Graphic: How to Navigate the [Crazy] World of Content Marketing

tech
We’ve undoubtedly entered the age of converged media with ever-blurring lines between paid, earned and owned media. With editors and influencers on pitch blast, brands have taken to acting as their own publisher in the online space. With the help of social sharing, content is both king and currency in relationship building, influence and brand exposure.

So how do PR pros stand out in the crowded world of content marketing? Here are three simple tricks for navigating tough terrain:

1. Get Graphic – Have a tough topic to explain? Try donning some data visualization. The best infographics marry a timely topic with solid imagery, compelling data and “snackable” social content.

2. Give it Legs — Got a good piece of content? Give it legs by boasting + posting it on your blog, deconstructing it for social sound bites and teasing it out in e-blasts and other owned media. Apparently Google loves great content. Who knew?!

3. Find Your Person — Read up on relevant editors and influencers in the field you’re pushing content to. Take some time to carefully craft a personal pitch for your person and the publication. Fall back on social media to get a sense of writing, interests and personal preferences.

Real Talk: No one likes to be put on [email] blast, so do your homework before pitching, find a friendly crowd and be sure to bring some “bite-sized” content along!
