This Year’s Superbowl Ad Takeaway: It Pays To Be Positive

There is no tradition more American than the Super Bowl. There is also no tradition more American than waiting for the commercials during the Super Bowl.

For marketing and advertising nerds everywhere, experiencing the commercials during the game and then checking out the reactions from friends online is sometimes more of a highlight than the game itself (yeah, I said it!). Here at Delucchi Plus, we had a roundtable discussion this morning about our favorite commercial – so you know we all had to come prepared.

To help prep our arguments and sway our educated decisions, Adobe rounded up the Top 10 Super Bowl ads based on “social buzz.” Using one of its social monitoring systems, it analyzed over 4 million social media mentions on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Tumblr, Flickr, Reddit, FourSquare, Google+, WordPress, Dailymotion, and other blogs. The impressive algorithm measures total mentions, buzz growth over an average day, sentiment, spend efficiency, and international reach.

According to their results, P&G’s #LikeAGirl ad won first place, with the highest volume of mentions and the highest positive sentiment across social media. Positive sentiment is a theme we can see across all ads, with none of the darker-themed commercials making the list. The Top 10 is made up of empowering messages, funnies, unexpected celebrities, and strong reminders to call our dads to tell them we love them.

Check out the Top 10 below! My personal favorite? One word: Avocados.

1. P&G’s (Always) “#LikeAGirl” (see above!)
