In what many cinephiles consider an overdue move, AMC Theaters is offering movie-going subscriptions: MoviePass. Given the wild success of subscription-based video services, it could be the breath of fresh air that the theater industry desperately needs. According to AMC.com, “MoviePass is the nation’s premier theatrical subscription service allowing members to see a movie in theaters every day for a flat monthly fee.”

Starting at $35 per month, patrons will be allowed a one movie per day “pass,” with iPhone- or Android-based apps allowing you to “book” your tickets. Want to 3D or IMAX movies included in that package? That’ll be more like $45 per month. The company boasts offering all major movies and all major theaters with no blackout dates. While this may not be compelling for the casual monthly moviegoer, ardent fans are looking forward to the program, even some right in our offices!
