Delucchi University Recap: Presentation Skills

DelucchiU-Color-Kalani

This week we welcomed guest presenter Kalani Thomas, Founder & President of Singularity Services and The Help Desk Sales, to talk to us about Presentation Skills.

Kalani, who has been in sales since age 14, began the interactive program with a story from Aesop’s Fables. The moral? You can’t please everybody. Over-customization, without mastery of a core story, confuses audiences and pleases no one.

We learned that by creating a core story behind your presentation, you are able to choose which path to take based on your audience and their expected outcomes. By mastering a path, you can see twists, turns and questions coming, which can counter presentation anxieties. The trick is to build out and understand an entire story, but choose which parts to tell depending on your audience.

We learned how to practice presentations by “leap frogging,” how to research and understand your audience; differences in what the CEO, CMO, CFO each care about; and how to project confidence, control the conversation and communicate in a person-to-person way.
