MikMak: The Modernization of Infomercials

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jtgzr4rrUS4

MikMak is a new app that’s hoping to  be the next generation of mobile e-commerce. As simply explained on the company’s website, “MikMak is an iOS app that lets you shop super short infomercials that we call minimericals.” The company hired comedians to give a thirty-second spiel on various products — detailing their information (in an amusing way) and testing them out on camera. The users can purchase the product on their phone and move along to the next informative (and fun) video. In other words, as Techcrunch’s Jordan Crook positions it, MikMak is the modernized version of television’s infomercial. While it’s currently available in beta version, you can still try it out and be ahead of this soon-to-be mobile marketing success story.

This app fuses sales with industry trends of mobile marketing and video content into one entertaining platform. (Talk about using popular industry keywords.) What’s even better, as Lauren Johnson from Adweek points out, is that MikMak is bridging infomercials with millennials. It brings more value to these consumers by taking the commercial model and crafting it in an entertaining way that will grab attention in a saturated marketplace. Other mobile commerce apps like Amazon, Groupon, Etsy, Walmart or Target don’t even offer this informative video entertainment (yet)!

While this app is still very much in its infancy — it doesn’t have a large social following as of yet — its elements of commercials, mobile, video, and entertainment align it for success. According to Sarah Kessler’s article from Fast Company, MikMak has already made hundred of promotional “minimercial” videos on the app so it’s fair to say the company preparing to go viral. Stay tuned!
