Old School Beer: Coors Heritage Cans

So last year I wrote a couple of times about Miller Lite’s throw back cans. The overwhelming success of Miller Lite’s change in packaging is now trickling down to another brand in the MillerCoors family.

Original Coors, the Banquet Beer, is also making a shift in their can design for this summer. Instead of just one vintage design they are rolling out an entire series or retrospective of their can designs. The interesting thing I find about their collection is how little the general branding has changed throughout the years. Even Coors’ most recent cans prior to their heritage release have a retro feel due to the choice of typography and the cream or “yellow” color (Coors cans have garnered the nickname of yellow bellies). Many domestic brands have shifted wildly throughout the years in favor or bright blues and metallic golds and silvers but Coors has remained true to their roots.

The rollout of the Coors Heritage Cans  is relatively new so it will be neat to watch to see if this tactic will work as well as it did for Miller Lite. A lot of this will be based on the audience. The Miller Lite brand appeals to a much larger crowd while Coors is a little more targeted.
