Retail Trends for the Fall

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNRcg5NRaXs

This time of year is the center of worlds colliding for retail: Summer is over, holidays are right around the corner and pumpkin-inspired everything is on the shelves, in our drinks and a part of our retail experiences. Brands are even getting in on the joke (see Kmart’s smart, relatable ad above!), poking fun at the sudden seasonality, while gently reminding you that their holiday services exist.

Pumpkin spice lattes, candles, K-cup flavors, oh my! In addition to the return of this now-inescapable seasonal flavoring, we’re spotting some emerging trends for 2016. and forecasts are being made. Check out some forecasting and a roundup of what’s going on in retail this month:

  1. Consumer spending is ramping up: The National Retail Federation announced retail sales in August rose 2.6% over last year, signifying that consumer spending is back up, lead by a 0.8% increase from health and personal care retailers.
  2. Pumpkin is EVERYWHERE: Nielson reported $361 million in sales of Pumpkin products last year, up 79% from 2011. Pumpkin everything is here to stay. (#PSL!)
  3. Omnichannel is the way to be: 2016 Forecasts are all about omnichannel. Smart Insights quotes Mobile, Millennials and Beacon technology as the big three for 2016.
