Months before the November premiere of “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1,” marketers are engaging fans with some chilling fictional PSAs from the oppressive regime of the Hunger Games universe, called The Capitol. In the midst of a rebellion against The Capitol, President Snow addresses citizens of Panem in a public service announcement that resembles political, propaganda advertisements.
President Snow’s idea of “One Panem” can also be seen through the social media campaign of #OnePanem on The Capitol’s Twitter account. Fans of the series can show their support of #OnePanem or send a rebellious tweet against President’s Snow desperate attempt to grab reins on the chaos that broke out across the nation after the 75th Hunger Games. The Capitol also released propaganda posters honoring unsung “heroes” from each district, reminding fans how important everyone’s contributions are to Panem.
As Adweek points out in a recent article, there are fewer movies and television shows that “are expanding their worlds with imaginary campaigns that give a wink to loyal fans.” This clever marketing effort delivers the eerie chill of the Hunger Games villain’s propaganda campaign, ramping up excitement for the November release date.
