The Best of the Internet: Sochi Winter Olympics

For two weeks now, the Sochi Winter Olympics have been dominating the social media scene (read: lifetime in the digital space) and don’t expect it to let up anytime soon.

While athletes have been busy sharing behind-the-scenes photos, commentary and pushing their social brand sponsorships via pre-packaged tweets and posts, the Internet is exploding with colorful commentary, parody accounts and viral antics surrounding the Games.

But before you go digging through the billions of tweets, videos, GIFs and photos from the past 10 days of Sochi social media, we’re giving you “The Best of the Internet: Sochi Winter Olympics.”

1.   Whether it’s reporting on Bob Costas’ Eye Infection, the Opening Ceremony Light Malfunction or US Bobsledder, Johnny Quinn’s break through moment, @SochiProblems has become the world’s most entertaining complaint box.

2. Figure skating commentary never looked so good! Using Sochi as the runway and Tara Lipinski as an accessory, Johnny Weir shows off some serious fashion, on air and via Instagram.  #GlitterTwins

3. It’s Bobsled Time! The Winter Olympics sees the return of Cool Runnings the Jamaican Bobsled Team and they have quite a catchy comeback song.

4. Couldn’t ask for a better social media mash up than comedy writer, Mike DiCenzo’s new tumblr, ‘90sFigureSkating. Just watch, you’ll thank us later…

5. The Sochi Selfie: This may be the greatest photo of the Olympics thus far and it involves zero athletes:

Honorable Mentions:

Curling with Cats: One way to ramp up the entertainment factor for curling (or anything else for that matter)…add cats.

Luge is the Least Photogenic Sport: It’s hard to be picture perfect when you’re racing down a death trap at 90 mph.

Shoshi Games 2014: Your favorite “Girls” star, Shoshanna, hits the slopes, the ice and is the center of all the Sochi action.
