Winning a MAXI Award

The U.S. MAXI Awards, hosted by The International Council of Shopping Centers, recognize innovative events, programs and technology that add value to shopping centers and companies across the United States. Categories are designed to recognize the evolution of the industry, while rewarding creativity and innovation.

Winners are announced during a special presentation at the ICSC RECon14 convention in Las Vegas, Nevada. This year, I had the pleasure of joining two of our clients who were nominated as finalists:  Peterson Companies for Downtown Silver Spring, and MarketPlace Development for Reagan National and Dulles International Airports.

The evening was a GREAT success with Downtown Silver Spring winning not one but two SILVER Awards in the categories of Cause Related Marketing and Public Relations! We share in Peterson Companies’ success and congratulate MarketPlace Development on their nomination.

Here’s a quick recap of the award-winning work:

Downtown Silver Spring

Re-imagining the Holiday

Management Company: Peterson Companies

Downtown Silver Spring partnered with the Arts & Humanities Council of Montgomery County to tap into the artist community and create a wildly unconventional holiday tree made entirely from 300 mostly donated and found toys and sporting goods. After the holidays, the items were donated to a local non-profit for children.

Reagan National and Dulles International Airports

#BumpedintoObama

Management Company: MarketPlace Development

MarketPlace Development, the airport food and retail concessions manager at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD), engaged with thousands of worldwide travelers landing in Washington, D.C. in July through a social media photo contest. Passengers were invited to take a picture with “the President” in front of pre-selected airport stores or restaurants, and were encouraged to upload their photos to Facebook, Twitter and Instagram with the hashtag #BumpedIntoObama to be entered into a daily drawing during the campaign.
