Do Something Today That Really Matters: Volunteer

volunteer-01

Flipping through the March 3 issue of The Washington Examiner, I came across an article that was a little distressing: VOLUNTEERISM FALLS TO 10-YEAR LOW.

Citing information from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, economics writer Joseph Lawler reports that “…about 25.4 percent of adult Americans” volunteered at least once for an organization between September 2012 and September 2013. In 2002, the first time BLS conducted a survey on volunteering, the rate was 27.6. He also reports the decline last year was a 1.1 percent drop from 2012.

Not too toot our own horn too much here at Delucchi Plus, but we have been challenged and even ENCOURAGED to participate in the community. Our “Give Back” days are a sanctioned “day-off,” sometimes amounting to more physical effort than sitting in front of a computer all day.

I could go on and on about the benefits of volunteering, listing little things like feeling good, helping those less fortunate, or gaining a sense of gratefulness, pride and togetherness — but I won’t.

I will go on about the need to volunteer, highlighting below a few examples of the selfless services that a few organizations provide on a daily basis to benefit those less fortunate than us.

Kids, elderly, animals, infirm, at-risk — there are a thousand (and more) opportunities out there that can benefit from YOU, and your time and effort. Plus, what’s on your desk? Chances are it really could wait, but some of the folks you’d be helping can’t.

So take the Nike slogan to heart, get off your duff and…JUST DO IT.

A partial list of the organizations we support and in which some of us at Delucchi Plus participate includes:
